FirstNet unveils new tools to improve first responder coverage and safety

Agencies can now purchase their own deployable network assets for use when communications are temporarily unavailable

By Police1 Staff

Public safety communications network FirstNet revealed four new tools on Tuesday designed to improve coverage and safety for first responders, according to a release from the company.

Public safety agencies can now purchase their own agency-owned Compact Rapid Deployable (CDR) Cells on Wheels (COW). FirstNet CRDs do not rely on commercial power availability, making them ideal for use during emergencies in rural and remote areas, as well as areas where communications may be temporarily unavailable, such as after a hurricane.

FirstNet also unveiled three other tools:

  • FirstNet MegaRange aims to improve coverage in remote or maritime areas;
  • LMR Interoperability for FirstNet Push-To-Talk allows seamless communications between LMF and FirstNet users;
  • Z-Axis is designed to assist with identifying where a first responder is located within a building.
