1. Where did your company name originate from?
Our name comes from our two parent organizations: combining the "Ge" from GE Aerospace and the "tac" from MiTAC.
2. What was the inspiration behind starting your company?
Getac was established in 1989 as a joint venture between GE Aerospace and MiTAC to provide defense electronics. Since then, Getac's mission has been to deliver rugged products that withstand the rigors of the end-user environment, including drops, water and extreme temperatures, while solving the challenges our customers face.
3. What is your signature product and how does it work?
Getac's BC-03 Body-Worn Camera – paired with the VR-X20 in-car video system, allows agencies to run one solution for all their in-field recording needs.
4. Why do you believe your products are essential to the police community?
Our rugged computing solutions help officers perform their jobs in the field, providing increased productivity and safety. Getac laptops and tablets integrate with law enforcement software, enable electronic ticketing and reporting, and provide real-time access to information, so officers remain situationally aware as they protect and serve. Our video evidence products provide transparency, allowing a bond of trust between agencies and the community they serve. Our solutions go above and beyond with extended power, ultra-rugged features, and full HD video – even in low-light conditions.
5. What has been the biggest challenge your company has faced?
Since 2020, companies globally have been dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the supply chain issues resulting from it. As an OEM, Getac has planned ahead to ensure we have the material inventories to meet demands and worked closely with our supply chain partners to maintain our swift lead times. Through the pandemic, Getac has successfully maintained lead times that are quicker than the current industry average.
6. What makes your company unique?
Getac has been providing rugged devices for over 30 years. We are vertically integrated worldwide with more than 9,000 employees. Getac owns our R&D, software development, supply chain management, warehousing, manufacturing, logistics and warranty with little contract manufacturing – letting us control every aspect of our products for optimal customer satisfaction.
7. What do your customers like most about your product?
The Getac team values a customer-first mentality that places our customers' needs at the forefront of our products and services. We work closely with our customers and partners to deliver tailored solutions that solve our customers' specific challenges. Our comprehensive customer support offers deployment services, including image deployment, and our after-sales services range from extended warranty offerings, a self-service portal, and our self-maintainer program that allows customers to order parts and repair themselves.
8. What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder community?
Getac products and solutions are engineered to help officers protect and serve our communities. Our cameras and video solutions allow for transparency between officers and the community, enhancing accountability and increasing public confidence in police agencies. Our solutions collect and store critical information, and we provide a level of support and quality that proves we understand the importance of that.
9. How does Getac promote sustainability?
Getac became the world's third-largest aluminum-magnesium alloy producer when we acquired Waffer Technology in 2009. As a certified green manufacturer, Getac has been independently tested and received environmental certifications including EPEAT, RoHS Directive, REACH Regulation and ENERGY STAR.
10. What's next for your company? Any upcoming new projects or initiatives?
Getac is currently working on the next generation of our hardware and software as we strive to continue to improve the solutions we provide to our customers.
