Fla. sheriff’s office adds a Corvette to its fleet

ESCAMBIA, Fla. — A new police car is turning heads in Florida. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office unveiled its C7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 last week at a fundraising event. 

The slick sports car was “seized from a felony suspect” and did not cost taxpayers any money, the sheriff’s office said. The Corvette Z06 was confiscated through civil asset forfeiture, which allows law enforcement to take property from suspects prior to conviction, according to Motor1.com. 

The Corvette Z06 was tricked out with sheriff decals and police lights funded by the Escambia County Sheriff Foundation, reported Motor1.com. The car can reach a top speed of 205 miles per hour, but it’s unlikely it will be joining any high-speed pursuits. Instead, the sweet ride will be used at community events to encourage public engagement, the report said.
