OAKLAND, Pa. — Pittsburgh police fatally shot a man who neighbors said had threatened a landlord and an officer on an Oakland street corner this afternoon.
The shooting occurred about 3:15 p.m. at the corner of Bates and Atwood streets in front of the Mad Mex restaurant.
Neighbors said that neither the landlord nor the police officer was injured.
Several witnesses reported seeing the man holding something over his head and approaching a uniformed police officer. They said they heard the officer scream “drop it!” several times before he fired once.
The man was pronounced dead on the sidewalk.
Police officials did not immediately comment on the incident. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and police Chief Nate Harper were at the scene.
