LAS VEGAS – A country music star handed his gun to an off-duty cop in need during the mass shooting Sunday in Las Vegas.

According to Fox News, John Rich of Big & Rich had finished performing at the Route 91 Harvest Festival and was at a bar on the Strip when word got out about an active shooter.

“I had a Minneapolis police officer off-duty hanging out,” Rich told Fox News. “He came up to me and he showed me his badge and he says, ‘I’m officer... and I am not armed for the first time ever I can’t believe it. Are you armed? I said, ‘Yes sir, I am armed.’ I have my concealed weapons permit and I said, ‘Yes, I am armed.’ He said, ‘Can I have your firearm so I can hold point on this front door?’”

The officer proceeded to protect the front door while bar patrons hid behind him. Rich told the publication the officer kept guard “without flinching” for two hours.
