(PHOENIX, Ariz.) -- A discrimination claim by a former police officer who said he was treated unfairly because he was a White officer in a predominantly Black department has been settled.
Joseph Euton, who was the handler for the suburban Cincinnati village’s only police dog, was fired last year. In a complaint to the Civil Rights Commission, he said he was denied promotions that went to less qualified officers.
Village officials agreed to pay Euton $2,400 in back pay and $1,000 in overtime and “canine maintenance.” He also gets to keep the dog.
