Former Officer Files Civil Lawsuit Against City of Dallas

The Associated Press

DALLAS, Ore. (AP) - The city of Dallas and members of its police department are facing a federal lawsuit filed by a former police officer who alleges he underwent racial discrimination and verbal harassment.

Officer Raymond Sizemore, 28, who is Hispanic, claims that his supervisor, Sgt. John Wallace, made numerous offensive comments to him about his ethnicity throughout his five-year tenure at the department.

He also alleges that his supervisors knew of the abuse, and did nothing to stop it, and that the work environment turned hostile after he filed formal complaints.

Sizemore resigned Sept. 1 as a result, the lawsuit claims.

City Manager Roger Jordan said that the police department’s internal investigation into Sizemore’s complaint against Wallace was not complete.

Police Chief Jim Harper wouldn’t comment about the specifics of the allegations, but said that he does not condone racial harassment.
