Police1 Staff Report
(GROSSE POINTE WOODS, Mich.) -- A police officer injured last Friday when a check fraud suspect allegedly drove into him with a sport utility vehicle is expected to return to work next week, Public Safety Director Michael P. Makowski told Police1.com. The unidentified male officer was responding to a report of a stolen check being cashed at a Michigan National Bank branch. After arresting one suspect in the bank’s parking lot the officer attempted to stop a second suspect who was exiting the lot in a sports utility vehicle, according to Makowski. The driver accelerated and struck the officer who fired at the Ford Explorer. More than one shot apparently struck the windshield, according to a statement released by Makowski’s office which said authorities are seeking a vehicle with a “windshield damaged by gunshots.”. The Wayne County prosecutor has issued an arrest warrant for check fraud for the unidentified female driver, Makowski said. A second suspect arrested outside the Michigan National Bank branch was being held later Friday, suspected of trying to cash a stolen check, Makowski said.
