NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A man who allegedly shot at a plainclothes policeman and choked a police dog has been booked with attempted murder.

Police said Officer Ronald Moore walked out of a house about 11:30 p.m. Friday, heard gunfire, went in and got his gun and police radio, and was reporting the shots when a man fired at him twice and ran.

A police dog tracked down Allen Berry, 31, of New Orleans, in a house under construction about four blocks from Berry’s house, said Sgt. Paul Accardo, a police spokesman.

K-9 Officer Bret Pitman reported that Berry tried to strangle the dog, Bronco, during the arrest, Accardo said.

He said Berry was treated for dog bites at Charity Hospital, then was booked with attempted murder, resisting arrest and battery on a police dog.
