Police yesterday were investigating a crash in East Mount Airy involving a police car that left a woman dead and three other people - including two officers - injured.

Police Sgt. George Golden of the Accident Investigation District said the crash occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. at Chew and Mount Pleasant Avenues. The 14th Police District officers were responding to a burglary call and heading north on Chew when they collided with a Mitsubishi Galant going west on Mount Pleasant. The squad car had its siren and lights on at the time, police said.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Mamie McNair, 46, of Upper Darby, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, Rosa Woods, 55, of the 200 block of West Mount Pleasant Avenue, suffered a broken leg.

Woods and the two officers were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center. Officer Joseph Alburtuz, 33, a two-year veteran, suffered multiple rib fractures. His partner, Francis Rawls, 26, a six-year veteran, had internal injuries.
