New technology is giving police an inside look at what school kids are doing. South Sioux City has a unique surveillance system that’s helping officers keep track of bad behavior.
The new camera system is helping police catch everything from fights to graffiti at South Sioux City High School.
Officers can access 48 cameras in and outside of the school through a wireless connection.the system that has only been up and running for a few months. Already all seven South Sioux City Police Cars can access the school’s cameras. It’s helped police learn a lot about what goes on where your kids go to school.
Officer Clint Nelson, SSC Police, said, “It’s going to put an eye into the school to be able to pinpoint where that person is if that person is safe, how volatile that situation is.”
Police say the system is not for everyday use. They’re only used in emergencies. Police are working to spread the surveillance system to banks and city buildings as well as at dangerous intersections where a lot of accidents happen.
