(BOSTON) -- Anger over the fatal shooting of a Dorchester man by municipal police boiled over in City Hall last night as city councilors and citizens clashed amid calls for an inquest into the incident.
Boston police officers removed more than 30 residents from the building after the protesters, some carrying placards branding the municipal cops racist, disrupted a City Council hearing. Councilors were forced to adjourn the session three times as protesters boomed, “No Justice, No Peace.”
Boston police said no arrests were made but members of the council blamed Roxbury Councilor Chuck Turner for the tensions.
“Councilor Turner wanted to stir up the crowd and he surely did,” said Councilor James M. Kelly.
But Turner aides said he urged the crowd to remain calm. Last month, Turner filed a council order for a hearing on the leadership of the Boston Municipal Police in the wake of the Dec. 27 shooting of 29-year-old Ricky Bodden. Bodden died after being shot in the back of the neck while running from officers investigating suspected drug activity in the Quincy-Stanley Playground, police said.
