CARLISLE, Pennsylvania (AP) - A 17-year-old boy shot and wounded his parents with rifle hours after a party welcoming them home from a pilgrimage to Mecca, police said.
Faizal Sabar, a student at Cumberland Valley High School, was arrested after he alleged shot his father, Roshan Ali Sabar, 40, and his mother, Asmita Sabar, 38, with a .22-caliber rifle after the family of five celebrated the parents’ return.
Both parents were taken to a hospital, where the mother was discharged Saturday and the father was listed in good condition Sunday night.
Two younger sons were also in the house at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured, police Sgt. Steven Kingsborough said.
A next-door neighbor who called the police Friday night said one of the boys tried to explain to her that his brother had shot his parents.
‘“My 17-year-old brother is shooting everyone. He’s out of control. My Dad’s hurt. My Dad got shot in the mouth,”’ Liz Keefer recounted the boy shouting after waking her at her home.
Kingsborough said the teen shot his mother in the head first, then shot his father in the face as he rushed to aid his wife.
Police did not give a motive for the shooting, nor did they say where the rifle came from.
Kingsborough said Faizal Sabar isn’t talking to police.
“He’s scared. He wants an attorney. We have to respect that,” Kingsborough said.
Neighbors said the Sabars have lived in the area for about three years and got along well with everyone.
