Three Escape From Jail in Nashville

WKRN-TV, Nashville

Nashville, Tenn. (AP) -- Three men escaped from the Criminal Justice Center early Sunday, including one who is a double murder suspect.

Authorities are looking for William Clay Bohanan, 40, who was jailed in October on two counts of first-degree murder and arson for the 1993 deaths of his girlfriend’s two young children. Police had to use tear gas to get Bohanan out of his apartment.

Berl Keith McKinnie, 38, was arrested in May and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He also is wanted in Chicago in a sexual assault case and for questioning in a homicide.

Billy Potts Jr., 39, was jailed this month on charges of aggravated robbery and theft.

McKinnie has a prosthetic foot and Potts has a prosthetic left leg, authorities said.

“They are all dangerous together. I don’t know what type of combination we have, but I know Bohanan and McKinnie are both probably more dangerous than if they were individually or alone,” Metro Police Sgt. Pat Postiglione said.

Authorities believe the escapees pushed out a metal grate inside the jail, crawled across the ceiling and dropped into a mechanical room before escaping through a vent using sheets tied together.

Police are searching along the Cumberland River on foot and with air surveillance.
