(MADISON, Wisc.) -- They taped him to a seat and he was arrested when the bus got to Madison.
Passengers disarmed a drunken, knife-waving Greyhound Bus Lines passenger, strapping him to a seat with packing tape after the driver pulled over, police said Wednesday.
Ronald Hood, 56, of Phoenix was arrested when the nearly full bus reached its stop in Madison at about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, officer Dave Gouran said. Police recovered two knives, including a folding knife with a 3-inch, serrated blade with which Hood allegedly threatened passengers.
The bus, which has a capacity of 52, was en route from Minneapolis to Akron, Ohio, Greyhound spokeswoman Lynn Brown said.
Driver Tyrone Alsay, 48, of Chicago, told police that passengers warned him at the previous stop in Tomah that Hood had a knife. Alsay confronted Hood, but allowed him to remain after Hood denied having a weapon, Gouran said.
A young mother, 16-year-old Jaquin Jones, said Hood drank whiskey throughout the trip, spilling it on her, and grew particularly belligerent near Wisconsin Dells. Jones, who was traveling to Akron with her 2-year-old son, told police Hood pulled the knife on them and said, ''This is how we take care of business in Mexico.’'
Several male passengers, described as Amish by the driver, took control after the knife-waving Hood walked up and down and urinated in the aisle near Portage, the driver said. The men grabbed and held down Hood, while Alsay stopped the bus and rummaged for packing tape. When the bus arrived in Madison, Hood was trussed to the seat, Gouran said.
Hood was taken to the Dane County Detoxification Center and tentatively charged with two counts of disorderly conduct while armed. Robbers sought
