MASHPEE, Mass. (AP) -- A woman foiled a would-be carjacker by throwing hot tea in his face, then shattering a china teacup over his head after he tried to commandeer the Mercedes she was riding in, police said.
Police said Mark Corkery, 32, of Sandwich was driving through the intersection of Route 130 and Great Neck Road at about 10 a.m. Monday when he hit another car from behind. Corkery got out of his car, then allegedly jumped into the back seat of the Mercedes as it passed and ordered two women in the car to drive him away.
One of the women then tossed the tea in his face and belted him with the cup, forcing Corkery to get out of the Mercedes and flee, police said. Police caught him shortly afterward and he was held without bail Monday night at the Mashpee police station.
No one was seriously hurt, police said.
Corkery was arraigned Tuesday in Falmouth District Court. He pleaded innocent to charges including carjacking, leaving the scene of an accident after causing personal injury and operating under the influence of drugs.
He was ordered held on $10,000 bail.
