Baltimore County police shot a woman who charged an officer yesterday while she was holding knives in a house in Essex, authorities said.
The woman was shot at least once in the shoulder and was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, said Cpl. Michael Hill, a county police spokesman.
Police officers were investigating a report of a suicidal woman at a house in the 800 block of Brunswick Road about 1 p.m., Hill said. At least one officer entered the house, and a woman holding knives charged the officer, Hill said.
The officer fired at least one shot, striking the woman in the shoulder, Hill said.
A neighbor, Donald Norman, 43, said he was watching television when he heard shots.
“I heard three quick [shots] -- bang, bang, bang,” he said. “I looked out the window and saw all kinds of cops.”
He said that shortly thereafter, he saw a woman being brought out on a stretcher.
Police had not identified the woman as of last night, authorities said.
