LINDEN, N.C. — A deputy lost his home and all his belongings in a Christmas Eve fire.
Longtime Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael D. Martin was on vacation with his family when the fire broke out, The Fayetteville Observer reported.
He lost everything, even the pool lining melted in the fire, his son Robert Martin told the Observer.
“It was a total loss,” son Robert Martin said. “Everyone is crying.”
Officials believe the fire started at the Christmas tree, the first real tree the family bought.
Robert Martin said his father’s house is insured, but the family is not sure whether it covers the total loss.
A GoFundMe has been created to help the family get back on their feet.
