DETROIT — Authorities say a man was injured by an explosion after stepping on one of several booby traps set to protect a large marijuana growing operation in Detroit.
Officer Dan Donakowski says the 28-year-old man apparently tripped the explosive Sunday morning while walking in a vacant field on the city’s west side. Donakowski tells The Detroit News he “was walking, heard some loud explosions and felt pain.”
Police say the man was taken to a hospital with a cut on his foot.
Donakowski says the man who police believe planted the traps has been identified and is cooperating with authorities. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokesman Donald Dawkins says the man wasn’t in custody on Monday morning. He says the agency is working with Detroit police on the investigation.
