McKINNEY, Texas (AP) - Police said they have arrested the 16-year-old mastermind of a North Texas crime ring who confessed to committing more than 600 robberies and burglaries in the past year.
McKinney police Cpl. Drew Caudell said police were amazed at the teen’s busy life of crime.
“It’s unusual to see someone of any age admit to that many burglaries,” Caudell said Wednesday. “He’s been active for the last two years. That’s how he made his living.”
The boy, who was not identified because of his age, lived in nearby Princeton and told police he directed at least eight others to steal cash, laptop computers, digital cameras and other electronics from homes and vehicles totaling $56,000.
On some nights, he committed as many as 20 break-ins, police said. He told authorities he helped coordinate 500 car break-ins and 130 burglaries among the other eight robbers, who were between the ages of 17 and 21. No other arrests had been made by late Wednesday afternoon.
