SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Police Department is participating in a cross-country bike race to raise funds and awareness for the National Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation.

While competing in Race Across America (RAAM), a 3,000 mile bicycle race from California to Maryland, the cycling team will honor law enforcement by stopping at police memorials, carrying the names of fallen officers and encouraging media coverage of the event.

In 2011, SPD became the first law enforcement-only team in RAAM and crossed the finish line in six days, 6 hours and 8 minutes.

“It was the kind of accomplishment in which we can all be proud and will remember for a lifetime,” Chief Rick Braziel said.
