SMYTH COUNTY, Va. — A deputy has been shot and killed during a traffic stop, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
Smyth County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Hunter Reedy died following a shooting that occurred while he assisted Marion Police Department officers with a traffic stop, according to the page.
The stopped driver became agitated after being issued a traffic summons and subsequently shot two deputies, including Reedy. Other officers returned fire, wounding the suspect, according to the page.
The driver has been charged with aggravated murder and four counts of attempted aggravated murder.
Reedy had served with the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office for seven years, according to the page. He is survived by his wife and three children.
