DEARBORN, Mich. — A Dearborn police officer sitting in a marked cruiser on the Fourth of July was targeted by suspects who intentionally launched fireworks at his cruiser and other drivers, WXYZ reports.
“These fireworks, these mortars can seriously injure people. They can kill people in certain circumstances,” Dearborn Police Department Cpl. Dan Bartok told WXYZ.
Bartok said the officer was responding to one of the dozens of incidents reported throughout the city when a suspect threw a mortar firework at the cruiser, which had the officer and a civilian inside.
No one was injured, but the cruiser was heavily damaged.
Police said two suspects have been arrested in connection with this incident.
Fireworks will not be allowed in Dearborn until Labor Day weekend.
