ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. — One Oneida County deputy is being recognized this week for using his own funds to purchase three child booster seats for a family.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Hanes was helping another individual in a Walmart parking lot when he saw several children exit a vehicle with their mother. However, he noticed there was only one car seat in the car. After speaking with the mother and relaying the potential safety issues involved with not having the kids buckled in properly, the officer realized there was a need that he could fill.
Hanes accompanied the woman into Walmart and purchased three booster seats for the children to ensure they would be safe when traveling from that point forward. The deputy also helped the woman properly install each booster seat before leaving.
The officer’s good deed coincides with National Child Passenger Safety Week, which is a week dedicated to highlighting the proper use of car safety seats for children.
