YAKIMA, Wash. — The Yakima Police Department will honor officers slain or disabled in the line of duty in a ceremony Thursday at the police station. The department’s Honor Guard will participate in the ceremony, which will get under way at 11 a.m. The public is invited.
As part of the ceremony, the block in front of the station at 200 S. Third St. will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The ceremony presages Law Enforcement Memorial Day on Saturday and is held in conjunction with National Police Week.
Seven officers from across Washington state were killed in the line of duty in 2009.
