BOCA RATON, Fla. — Florida Atlantic University is under lockdown right now as police search for the gunman who opened fire early this morning during a party at the school’s Boca Raton campus, the Associated Press reports.
“At this time FAU and Boca Raton police are searching for an unidentified male responsible for discharging a firearm on campus,” the school says on its website. “It is believed that this is an isolated incident. No one was seriously injured during the incident, though a non student received minor injuries.”
WPLG-TV reports that police found shell casings on the floor of a university apartment building when they responded to a report of shots fired at 1:16 a.m. ET.
WFLX-TV has a transcript of the latest briefing by school officials.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that there was a student sponsored party going on. Altercation broke out, and, ultimately, our suspect pulled out a firearm, and we believe fired two shots,” campus police Chief Charles Lowe is quoted as saying.
