MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — A man who reportedly had threatened his daughter with a gun Wednesday night was later arrested by the police department’s Special Response Team after a standoff at a Spring Garden Drive residence.
Police charged Derron Champion, 34, with two counts of felony domestic violence, inducing panic, and six counts of child endangering.
The incident began about 8 p.m. when officers responded to apartment in the 6800 block of Spring Garden for a report of a disturbance involving allegations of domestic violence with a handgun, police said this morning. When officers arrived, a 16-year-old girl told them her father had threatened her with a handgun and fled the residence.
The teen said her father had returned to the apartment just before officers arrived, and that six young children and their mother were inside.
Officers used a cruiser loud speaker in an attempt to get Champion to exit the apartment, police said. He exited a rear door at one point, observed officers, and went back inside.
The police department Special Response Team was called out, and members entered the residence through the front door and arrested Champion with further incident. The children and their mother were not injured.
