UNION CITY, Calif. — Officers detained a number of suspects in the Decoto district Wednesday morning after the Union City SWAT team searched two houses in connection with a shooting one month ago, police said.

About 7 a.m., the SWAT team with assistance from Newark and Fremont officers and the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force served one arrest warrant and search warrants, Lt. Ben Horner said.

Authorities did not say if anyone has been arrested in the operation.

Police searched one home on the 700 block of E Street, and another two blocks away, on the 33500 block of 7th Street, Horner said.

Officers were looking for suspects in connection with a July 28 shootout between two large groups in broad daylight on 4th Street, between D and E streets, police said.

One man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg in the incident.

The police operation Wednesday morning occurred less than four hours after a 17-year-old male was shot, but not seriously wounded, in the same neighborhood.

The Decoto district has been plagued with gun violence throughout the year.
