INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Police Department has apologized to 13 female officers after an email with their bra sizes was distributed to fellow officers and commanders.
The email informed department supervisors that the officers’ new body armor was ready, The Indianapolis Star reported Saturday.
Included in the e-mail was a spreadsheet with the female officers’ weight, chest size and waist measurements, as well as which officers’ vests needed special tailoring.
Among the officers who received the e-mail Tuesday was Deputy Chief Valerie Cunningham, the highest-ranking woman in the department. She asked that the spreadsheet be removed, but some commanders had already forwarded the e-mail to other officers, My Fox Orlando reported.
“We made a mistake,” Cunningham told the Star. “We want to hold ourselves to the highest professional standards. The measurements should not have been included.”
At least one of the female police officers involved has requested legal assistance from the police union, Fox News reported.
