Carlos Silva, 48, was killed in the collision. Silva was a member of Civil Police of the Federal District of Brazil.

“He loved what he do. He loved to be here. He loved to train. And most of all he loved his career and his daughter,” Silva’s teammate, Investigator Alexander Manzan said at a press conference.

The crash occurred when a bike blew a tire during the downhill portion of the course. The rider lost control and crashed, causing a chain reaction.

All riders were wearing the proper safety gear, according to the report. Two other riders remain in critical condition after the crash.
