(NEW ORLEANS) -- A police cruiser collided with a car late Thursday on North Claiborne Avenue, killing the car’s driver and a pedestrian, authorities said.
An on-duty 1st District officer was eastbound on Claiborne about 10:30 p.m. when his car collided with a Dodge that was trying to across Claiborne at Gov. Nicholls Street, Lt. Marlon Defillo said.
After the impact, the Dodge spun around and struck a male pedestrian, Defillo said.
The Dodge’s driver, a man, was ejected from the car.
Two narcotics officers, who happened to be nearby, called for help. The two victims died a short time later at Charity Hospital.
The officer suffered facial injuries, but they weren’t serious.
There were no witnesses and no one was cited in the incident, Defillo said.
The officer, whom he would not identify, was not responding to a call.
