Annual police cycle competition to benefit children’s hospital

(BATON ROUGE, La.) -- The Fourth Annual Gulf Coast Police Motorcycle Skills Championship will come to Baton Rouge on Saturday.

The event, hosted by city police, benefits the Dream Day Foundation, which raises funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

The championship will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the southwest parking lot of The Mall at Cortana, near Dillard’s.

It is free, and the public is invited, a news release said.

About 150 police motorcycle riders are expected to compete.

They will ride five timed courses laid out in traffic cones to test their riding skills and talents, the release said.

In addition to the motorcycle competitions, there will be clowns, raffles, food and T-shirts.

Baton Rouge and Galveston, Texas, take turns hosting the event. Last year’s event raised more than $12,000 for the foundation.
