BOSTON (AP) - A Boston police officer was taken to a hospital Thursday night after being shot in the line of duty in the city’s Jamaica Plain section, authorities said.
The officer, whose name was not immediately made public, was saved by his bullet-proof vest and is expected to survive. He was taken to Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
The 35-year-old officer, a six-year veteran, was on routine motorcycle patrol when he saw something suspicious in a tunnel near a school on Heath Street, according to broadcast reports. He went into the tunnel where he was shot.
Police were still searching for a suspect late Thursday night. They described the suspect as a black male, about 5-foot-9, with a medium build and wearing all black clothes.
