Man Says Officer Shot Him ‘For No Reason’

AKRON, Ohio -- A burglar shot by a police officer is now suing the officer, saying he was shot for “no reason,” reported NewsChannel5.
Christopher Sample was shot several times last January by Akron Police Officer Jason Bailey when police responded to a break-in at a Kenmore Boulevard business.
After searching the building, Sample was found hiding in a cabinet. According to police, when Sample moved, Bailey felt threatened and fired several times.
Sample was unarmed. He survived being shot and served six months in jail after pleading guilty.
Sample says he has spent $45,000 in medical bills, and hasn’t been able to work.
Fraternal Order of Police president Paul Hlynsky said Bailey has already been vindicated through both criminal and internal investigations.
“We’re standing behind the officer 100 percent. He did nothing wrong. He gave orders to this person and the person did not obey the orders. He was committing a crime at the time and the officer was doing his job,” said Hlynsky.
