A Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy shot and wounded a man early Tuesday morning, who the sheriff says wanted a police officer to kill him.
Deputies shot Thomas McGouey around one a.m. outside his West Knox County apartment.
The sheriff says McGouey called 9-1-1 around to report a suspicious person in the complex, but when officers got there McGouey was waiting for them.
McGouey pointed a gun at the deputies and they fired back. He had a bull’s-eye painted on his chest and the words “Let Me Die” on his side.
The sheriff says deputies found inside McGouey’s apartment a suicide note and a detailed map of where McGouey would stand to ensure being shot.
Knox County Tim Hutchison said, “This individual had been planning this down to the very last detail about how he would get the police officer to shoot him. What he didn’t plan was only being wounded and not being killed.”
The gun McGouey pointed at officers turned out to be a pellet gun.
The sheriff says when McGouey recovers, he will face aggravated assault charges.
