SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A Minnehaha County jury on Thursday convicted a man accused of trying to kill two Sioux Falls police officers.

Jurors found John S. Lewis, 42, guilty on two counts of attempted murder and 11 other felonies stemming from a February shooting at a storage locker.

Officers Michael Iverson and Scott Reitmeier were investigating a suspicious vehicle at the storage complex when shots were fired at them.

According to police, the officers returned fire, and Lewis was hit once in the chest and once in a holster he was wearing. Iverson and Reitmeier were not hurt.

After the shootout, stolen guns and other property were found in the storage unit.

Jurors deliberated for eight hours Thursday afternoon before returning the verdict.

Lewis has four previous felony convictions making him eligible for a habitual offender status.

Sentencing has not been set.
