ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County deputy sheriffs arrested a Zellwood driver and passenger they said had intentionally rammed a car into a marked sheriff’s cruiser Wednesday.
Deputies were trying to make contact with Clinton J. Burton, 24, about 5:30 p.m. while he was behind the wheel of a Chrysler Cordoba at the Race Trac gas station at Orange Blossom Trail and Citrus Avenue, deputies said. Instead of stopping, he accelerated, slammed into a patrol car and headed west.
Burton lost control and crashed into a tree less than 5 miles away at Yothers Road and Orange Blossom Trail.
Burton and passenger Gabriela Woods, 18, of Mount Dora were arrested on counts of attempted homicide of a law-enforcement officer. Burton also was arrested on outstanding warrants for violating probation. They were being held without bail.
