NEW YORK (AP) - An off-duty police officer fatally shot and killed another man in Brooklyn in an apparent accident, police said.
The victim, George Perez, 25, of West New York, N.J., was shot in the face just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday inside 1262 81st Street in Dyker Heights, police said. He died at Victory Memorial Hospital just after 9 p.m.
The officer, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital to be treated for trauma, police said.
It was unclear clear whether the gun was the officer’s service weapon. No details were immediately available, and police said the shooting was under investigation.
