(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) -- An off-duty police officer shot and killed a man outside an East Side bar on Dec. 30 during a confrontation.
Torin Shields, 32, was killed by an unidentified police officer in the parking lot of the Flamingo Lounge about 9 p.m.
According to police reports, the officer was in the bar when he was told that there was a carjacking in progress in the parking lot.
Capt. Rick McLaughlin told the Kansas City Star that the officer, an eight-year veteran, went out to the parking lot and confronted the suspect.
There has been no word on how many shots were fired or the circumstance surrounding the shooting, but police did say that a handgun was found next to the suspect.
The officer has been placed on standard administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
