HURST, Texas (AP) -- A Fort Worth man has died after leading police through three North Texas cities in a chase that ended with him jumping off a bridge, police said.
Police began following Danny Melvin Thompson Jr., 28, shortly before midnight Saturday when they received reports he was allegedly driving while intoxicated.
Thompson refused to stop for Bedford police, instead leading them through Euless and Hurst, where he was in a minor accident.
Thompson ended up headed south on Loop 820, where his car stalled. Police say he got out of his car and ran east across several lanes of traffic. He jumped off a 35-feet bridge over Pipeline Road before police could get to him.
Police believe Thompson was disoriented and did not realize he was on a bridge when he jumped.
