WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) -- A 21-year veteran of the Worcester police force was killed while attending a motorcycle rally in South Dakota, the department reported.
Worcester police said Officer John M. Reynolds, 50, of Charlton, died Monday after his custom Harley-Davidson crossed the center line of Route 14A, a curvy mountain road at that point, and collided with an oncoming motorcycle. The operator of the other bike also died.
Police said neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the accident.
The afternoon accident occurred near Sturgis, S.D., where the annual bike rally attracts up to 500,000 enthusiasts. Six other Worcester officers accompanied Reynolds to the rally.
Reynolds spend six years as a security guard for the Telegram and Gazette newspaper in Worcester, before entering the Worcester Police Academy in 1983.
