MESQUITE, Texas — Police in Mesquite arrested a homeless man accused of stabbing two Eastfield College officers late Monday.
Miguel Sarinana, 22, was in an unused classroom on campus when the first officer found him about 9:45 a.m., police said.
That officer was questioning Sarinana when he pulled out a knife and stabbed him repeatedly, police spokesman Brian Parrish said. A second campus police officer came to help and was also stabbed.
Sarinana fled on foot into a neighborhood east of campus, with the first officer chasing him. When he lost sight of the suspect, campus police called Mesquite police around 10 p.m.
About an hour later, a homeowner called police saying his dog was barking at someone in the alley behind his home. Police found Sarinana hiding and arrested him.
He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital with cuts on his hand. Both officers were taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where they were listed as stable.
Classes will be held as scheduled at Eastfield, the school said early Tuesday.
