MCNEAL, Ariz. — A man standing in a road flagged down a deputy and reported killing someone, authorities in Arizona said.

Jay Albert Stevens, 52, was arrested and faces a first-degree murder charge in the killing of a 61-year-old man on Thursday, Sept. 8 near McNeal, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said.

Stevens told the deputy he had fatally shot a person when the deputy stopped around 1 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Then he led deputies to a home because he did not know the address, and the man was found dead, authorities said.

Stevens was arrested and taken to the Cochise County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.

McNeal is about 100 miles southeast of Tucson.
