LOS ANGELES — A member of the Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team dressed as Santa Claus and descended from a LAPD helicopter to deliver toys to more than 1,000 children at Los Angeles Orthopedic Hospital Wednesday.
More than 1,500 toys were donated from businesses and community supporters in southern California.
The L.A. Orthopedic Hospital has been serving kids near downtown Los Angeles for nearly a century. The LAPD SWAT unit has been delivering toys to the hospital for 16 years, with the annual tradition of dressing as Santa and making a festive entrance for the kids.
