Assistant fire chief charged with impersonating a police officer, Conn.

The Boston Globe

WILLINGTON, Conn. - A high-ranking Manchester firefighter has been accused of posing as a state trooper and pulling over a driver several weeks ago.

Raymond Shedd, 48, an assistant chief with the Manchester Fire Department, was charged Monday with impersonating a police officer and breach of peace. He appeared later Monday in Vernon Superior Court.

Court documents say Shedd was driving a Manchester town vehicle that looks like a police cruiser and pulled over a woman whom he claims was speeding on Turnpike Road in Willington on Feb. 19. Shedd told authorities he never represented himself as a police officer.

Manchester Fire Chief Robert Bycholski said he wants all the facts of the case before deciding whether to discipline Shedd, but said he expects Shedd to continue working while the matter is pending in court.

Shedd has been with the department for about 23 years, Bycholski said, adding he expected Shedd to return to work Tuesday.
