Kansas prisons reviewing security

Nearly a month after John Manard escaped from the Lansing Correctional Facility, prisons across Kansas are undergoing a comprehensive review of security procedures and practices today.

The stand down review requires staff to review all security procedures and make sure all post orders are current and understood. Also, it gives employees a chance to identify and address problems.

The review will cover every post and every shift. Wardens must see to it that anyone not working today undergo the same scrutiny upon their return.

Kansas Department of Corrections officials said every contractor will be reviewed, including medical, food service and private industry.

To do so, all non-essential inmate activities were suspended. Off-site work release inmates were allowed to attend their regular jobs. However, all volunteer activities, yard privileges and other activities are cancelled.
