BLUE HILL, Maine — State police say a trooper is recovering after being stabbed in the leg while apprehending a burglary suspect in Blue Hill.
Trooper Thomas Pickering was treated and released from an Ellsworth hospital Tuesday night for the wound that required three stitches.
Authorities said 24-year-old Joshua Gray of Ellsworth is being held in the Hancock County Jail on an aggravated assault charge.
Police said Pickering arrested Gray after a foot chase in connection with a burglary investigation. It was only after Gray was in handcuffs and Pickering was driving him to the jail that the trooper spotted blood on his pants.
Police said a pocket knife was later found and is believed to be the weapon used in the stabbing
