SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — A police officer allegedly slashed in the neck by a man who had walked away from an upstate mental health facility has been released from the hospital.
Adam Baker of the Saratoga Springs Police Department was released from Albany Medical Center yesterday afternoon, a day after his carotid artery was slashed as he attempted to take a 19-year-old man into custody.
Authorities say the 30-year-old officer approached Seth Dawson of Shushan (SHOO'-shuhn) in Washington County after Saratoga police received a request from the mental health facility to pick up Dawson.
Police say Dawson pulled out a razor and slashed Baker’s neck, coming within a quarter-inch of killing the officer.
Baker was airlifted to Albany Med, where he underwent surgery Wednesday night.
Dawson has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
