BURNET, Texas — Two cooks have been charged after one allegedly had a beef with the Burnet (BER'-net) police chief and tainted his food.
Chief Paul Nelson says he believes he was the sole target.
Twenty-three-year-old Jaime (HI'-mee) Perez and 33-year-old James Ledesma (luh-DES'-muh) were jailed Wednesday on felony counts of tampering with a consumer product.
If convicted, both could get up to 20 years in prison.
A Burnet County jailer, who declined to give her name, said bond for Perez was $50,000. Perez allegedly had other run-ins with police. Details were not immediately available.
Bond was pending for Ledesma. The jailer had no information on attorneys for the now-fired cooks.
Sheriff’s Capt. Dwight Hardin said body fluids were put in Nelson’s food. The allegations include spit and nose blowing.
Officials with Andy’s Landing denounced the alleged tampering and said they work hard to be a good restaurant.
Burnet is about 50 miles northwest of Austin.
