K-9 dies after collision that injured Kentucky sheriff’s deputy, two others

Capt. Casey McCoy was making a left turn onto the bypass when a pickup truck hit the right side of his cruiser

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Boyle County Sheriff’s Department is mourning the loss of a police dog that died after a crash Tuesday afternoon.

WKYT reports that Capt. Casey McCoy was injured in the crash, which the sheriff’s office said occurred on the U.S. 150 Bypass at Daniel Drive at about 2:45 p.m.

According to WKYT, McCoy was making a left turn onto the bypass when a pickup truck hit the right side of his cruiser.

His canine partner, Nikki, 9, a Belgian malinois, died at the Animal Hospital of Danville, WKYT reported.

McCoy was treated for a hand injury at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, the sheriff’s office said.

Two people in the pickup truck also had minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, according to WKYT.
